April held Associated Student Body (ASB) elections for numerous positions. Before these elections, there were heavy campaigns for the candidates to gain student votes through the use of Instagram, handmade posters, photo ops to promote themselves, etc. Now the votes are in and we have new cabinets for every grade level.

Our new senior representatives are President Alex Lopez, Vice President Savanna Kimball, Secretary Marc Hernandez, Treasurer Variya Ratanakasikorn, and Historian Brooke Miller.

ASB representatives are particularly visible during spirit weeks on the quad, putting up posters to promote school dances and events, and in the stands at football games. However, not everyone knows what they really do.

With this new group of student representatives being put in place for next year, we can expect some changes to accompany them. From revamping traditional events to introducing new programs, these students are ready to bring the Class of 2025 an unforgettable senior year experience, and the rest of the school a great year as well.

Lopez is very excited for this next chapter in his long ASB journey. He has been a large part of ASB since his freshman year, and with this experience came his desire for the role of president. He hopes his services in ASB and his friendship with Kimball can help him achieve his goals for this year.

“I am currently working on strategies to implement new events, things such as music festivals that have been really popular at other schools,” Lopez said. “I also want to have more collaboration with other schools, maybe some events together, theme park trips, and other fun events. I think I am one of the presidents with the most experience in ASB. With that, I have seen a lot about what works and what hasn’t worked.”

Kimball also has a lot of experience in ASB. She has been in ASB since her sophomore year. She has a background in leadership and is confident that she will bring new ideas and innovative solutions to help our school thrive. One of her main goals is to address our school’s lack of school spirit.

“We have already started talking as a cabinet,” Kimball said. “One collective thing we want to do is create a more united community. I feel like we have a lack of student participation throughout our school. So we are talking about putting on new events and trying new ways of building school spirit at football games. We are trying to tweak all of our events to figure out how we can increase school spirit and student participation.”

Overall, there is a lot to look forward to for this upcoming school year and we have a cabinet that is willing to put in the work to better GHC.

I would love to see that bridge between students and the events that we are holding and create a more collective and more united student body.
