On Tuesday April 28, the school hosted a celebration of academic and athletic teams that was also covered by CBS News.
The event took place in the large gym during the professional development time, enabling students, parents, and staff to attend.
The school has over 100 teams and clubs, many of whom have brought trophies to the school.
Executive Director Brian Bauer opened the ceremony speaking on the legacy of Granada Hills Charter and its impressive study body including teams such as Academic Decathlon, Model United Nations (MUN), Basketball, and Cheer.
Bauer, as well as Administrative Directors Julian Gomez and Julia Howelman as well as Athletic Director Cristina Garcia, introduced each team and listed their achievements this year, after which the team was asked to stand for applause.
After each team was honored, the ten time National Champion Academic Decathlon made a special entrance through a cheerleader tunnel. The team then had speeches by one of their captains, senior Tale Chen and their coach Dr. Tyler Lee.
“Especially after we lost regionals, it took a lot of strength to keep going,” Chen said. “But we did it and I’m honestly incredibly proud of this team and my coaches.”
There were photo opportunities with GHC themed backdrops for each team, many of whom used the opportunity to post their excitement to be recognized on social media.
Congratulations to the many academic and athletic teams for their successes this year.
