As the school year comes to an end, pride and yearning fill the Plaid Press staff as we review our development and feedback on this year’s content and design. With the culmination of our last issue for the 2015-2016 school year, we take a moment to reflect on all the noteworthy achievements that this year’s Plaid Press team has accomplished.
In the beginning of the year, we were most concerned with making the design of the newspaper our own. The new magazine format had never been explored before, and this year we wanted to tackle the idea in every issue and on every page of the Plaid Press. We expanded graphics, experimented with new and colorful fonts, and changed the format and color of the Plaid Press logo every month. We aimed to make the newspaper more modern and attractive to readers, and we feel that we have succeeded in the endeavour.
Another big concern was cohesiveness. We wanted to ensure that the designs of all our pages were connected in some way. For instance, we included a drop cap at the start of every article and introduced a double line under article titles of many pages. In addition, this year’s team has excelled in making every page of the newspaper creative and original through content and design.
For our final issue of the year, we focused on the concept of art, as a tribute to both the different arts on campus and the creativity of the Plaid Press staff. There are so many different types of artistry, both traditional and nontraditional, and we feel that it is important for everyone to express themselves no matter what their passions are. Similarly, Plaid Press lives up to this belief by providing our members with the opportunity to express themselves through the demonstration of their writing and artistic abilities every month. Therefore, this issue highlights a few extraordinary artists on campus in hopes of encouraging students to pursue extracurriculars revolving around this field.
Despite the small class size, all 15 members of the Plaid Press have contributed immensely to the success and praise the newspaper has received this year. Therefore, we would like to take the time to thank our staff writers for their dedication and passion and to our editors for their thoroughness and creativity.
Throughout the year we received commentary on the content of our paper. This commentary ranged from immeasurable praise to constructive criticism. We thank you, our readers, for the analysis of our work and hope that the remaining students on campus continue to question and contribute their interpretations to the Plaid Press. Your criticism is valued and helps us improve on our interviewing , writing, and critical thinking skills.
Overall, thank you for accompanying us in our journey through discussion and research of school and world events. We hope we have inspired you to paint the world around you by exploring your passions, just as we have done this year.
