Photo Essay: Dodgeball Inferno 2018

The Diablos, led by senior Wesley Acevado, are introduced prior to their fist matchup.

Outside, it was a brisk 60 degrees, but inside Bryce Schurr Gymnasium the atmosphere was nothing less than an inferno. How fitting that out of the 24 team bracket it would be the baseball seniors’ team, the Diablos, coming out of the fire champions once more.

This was my second consecutive year covering Dodgeball Inferno for The Plaid Press; and for the second consecutive year, I went home with no voice from yelling and a smile from ear to ear. It lived up to my expectation of the best school event of the entire year yet again.

These are just a handful of my favorite moments of the night.

Senior Arturo Goche imitates former University of Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield by “planting” the Squirtle Squad team flag into the court.
Notorious D.I.G. (Girls Volleyball) huddles around Coach Tom Harp as he introduces the team prior to their first matchup.
Senior Noah Kutrosky runs around the court with a Barstool Sports’ “Saturdays Are For The Boys” flag.
The cheer squad’s team, the Captains celebrate advancing to the next round.
My nominee for best dressed: Senior Aram Messerlian for his rasta hat and fake dreads locks.
Senior Devyn Prince throws the ball at the opposing team.
Junior Christopher Adwani dances at center court during a break in play.
Volleyball players on The All Powerful Breathing Rubber Duckies set and spike the ball during the last moments of their game.
Senior Matthew Valdivia slings a ball at the other team.
Members of the boys soccer team show off their champion rings from their 2017 Los Angeles City Section city title.
Senior Wesley Acevado breaks a wooden bat over his knee prior to the championship game.
The Diablos celebrate at center court as confetti rains down after they beat the All Powerful Breathing Rubber Duckies in the championship.
