Granada Hills Charter High School’s first radio club, the Highlander Radio Club will be releasing their first broadcast this month. Students will be able to access it on the club’s website.
The club plans to broadcast their pre-recorded shows every day during the school year with podcasts, segments and shows. They hope to include live segments next year.
The Highlander Radio Club students’ broadcasts will have reports about school, sports, news, and popular events. It will also include music from all genres and various segments ranging from science and conspiracy theories to discussions about current events. More segments will be included in future broadcasts such as school-wide surveys.
Though there will be messages from the club president and vice president included in each broadcast, they plan to have many different hosts.
“This club was formed because I’m heavily inspired by entertainment and media and believe it’s an incredible tool for people to know and use. I believe in the power of speaking and giving people an effective platform to speak of what they’re passionate about and what they want the world to know, and I wanted to bring this opportunity not only to myself but all the students of Granada,” sophomore and president Maria Elena Lamprianidis said.
She hopes that soon she will be able to add more segments such as interviews with student artists and musicians as well as advertisements for school events. She also plans to introduce segments about stress relief and other segments focusing on student support.
Club members have expressed excitement for the upcoming broadcast.
“I am really interested in how people will do during the broadcast. It is the first broadcast so there will be a lot of nerves and I want to see how everyone does,” junior Jacqueline Jia said.
The Highlander Radio Club is a club started by students for students with the goal of it being a place for students to learn public speaking and to have a platform to speak on. To request song selections and segments ideas, email highlanderradio@gmail.com.
