The sold out 9th annual Granada’s Best Dance Crew Competition (GBDC) took place on Friday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Highlander Hall.

The competition was sponsored by Omega Automotive and Northridge Body Works and additional support was provided by parents and staff associated with the event.
Each year, GBDC features dance performances from a variety of groups. This year’s competitors included several groups each in the dance crew division and activities and athletics division. Filipino Club, Mixed Chix, TrebleMakers, Be Like Me, Oh G’s, and Revolutionary Steps competed in the crew division. Meanwhile, in the activities and athletics division, cheer, baseball, Kiss My Ace (girls and boys volleyball), ASB, Speech and Debate, H2O Bros (boys water polo), yearbook, girls soccer, and boys soccer competed.
In addition to the student talent, a group of critically acclaimed professional dancers made guest appearances, including Dominic Chaiduang, the choreographer of the critically acclaimed film “La La Land.”

In the dance crew division, Oh G’s took the first place trophy and a grand prize of $50, while TrebleMakers took second and Rev. Steps took third. In the activities crew division, Baseball took home the first place trophy and $50, Kiss My Ace placed second, and Girl’s Soccer placed third.
“We had lots of rehearsals and practices with our choreographer and on our own time. The week of GBDC, we practiced every day during nutrition to make sure we put on the best performance for everyone. The most rewarding part of winning was to know that all of the hard work we put in paid off,” sophomore Everett Zisch of Oh G’s said.
“We were pretty excited when we won. We worked hard for it. There was a lot of tough competition, but we were out there to have fun. In the end we won and were really excited about it,” senior Drew Weinberg on Baseball said.

The competition was clearly a success as demonstrated by the funds generated for the dance team as well as the cheers and applause in the crowd. Both the participants and the audience enjoyed themselves and look forward to next year’s show.
