As the college application deadline approaches, senior stress levels inevitably rise, leading to an increased workload for our on-site college counselors as well. The college counselors offer a range of valuable services to support students, including personalized guidance and advice for choosing and applying to the right college.

The college counselors do a fantastic job of gauging student interests to give them personalized lists of colleges that would be a good fit.

“When students have identified special interests, I work towards supporting them by recommending or sharing information that is relevant to those interests,” college counselor Melissa Jimenez said. “For example, if it is a specific career that they want to pursue, we will look at majors that would be beneficial to them. We will help students find specialized programs that suit their interests. We provide various resources to explore majors and career options, beginning with the two platforms available to all GHC students: SCOIR and California Colleges.”

The hard work put into sleepless nights studying for a big test and the dedication required to excel as a student-athlete ultimately pays off when students can set themselves up for success in the eyes of college admissions officers.

When applying to college, it’s important to stand out from the competition. This is especially true when it comes to personal statements and writing aspects of the application.
Many experts recommend focusing on why you want to attend a particular school rather than general statements about why you want to attend college. No matter what you write about, however, colleges want to see your skills and your personality.

“Your ability to convey your thoughts clearly and effectively is a skill that colleges value,” college and career counselor Tania Torosian said. “Since you have limited space, try to focus on the most significant aspects of your background, experiences, and achievements.”

No matter what college you apply to, whether it is an Ivy League, University of California school, or community college, being accepted and continuing your education is a major accomplishment.

Studies from Northeastern University show that college graduates see 57 percent more job opportunities and openings, compared to non-college graduates.

This research shows that obtaining a college degree, no matter what major or path you choose can help lead to better financial security and a respected professional career.

No matter the destination, the research from Northeastern underscores the significance of a college degree, which is why the college and career office is such a valuable resource on campus.
The college and career office staff, with their tireless efforts and dedication, stands as an invaluable resource for support and guidance. With the assistance of college counselors, students can make confident and well-thought-out decisions for their futures.
