The newly established Architecture Club is not just a club; rather it is a platform where creativity meets education. The club’s mission is to enhance members’ creativity and analyze architecture’s application in the real world. It is paving the way for aspiring architects and enthusiasts alike.
Recognizing the absence of an architecture course on campus, the Architecture Club takes on the responsibility of preparing students to study architecture and join the field. To prepare prospective architecture majors, the Architecture Club explores similar topics as college-level architecture courses.
At the beginning of the school year, members gained insight into how history shaped architectural styles, such as Classical, Tudor, Spanish Colonial, Gothic Revival, and Modern. Throughout the year, they will explore the basics of architecture, which include sketching floor plans, making models, and navigating the 3D design program, Sketch Up. This ensures that members gain hands-on experience and practical skills that mirror those in higher education settings.
“I enjoy how I can learn alongside other students about a shared passion, which not only prepares me but them as well in case they are serious about pursuing this field,” Architecture Club President and junior Erika Lopez said.
It is important to note, however, that the club is not limited to aspiring architecture majors. Since architecture is a fusion of both STEM and art, the club caters to a variety of different skill sets that can apply to many career fields.
“I love the versatility of information the Architecture Club can offer,” Vice President and junior Bianca Galachyan said. “For example, a lesson on the components of a basic house not only interests architecture majors, but uses design principles, the laws of physics, and math calculations.”
To further enrich the knowledge base of its members, the Architecture Club plans to invite professionals from the architectural field to share their expertise.
This exposure will not only provide insights into the real-world applications of architectural principles but also open the doors for networking and mentorship opportunities.
If you are interested in joining, the Architecture Club holds meetings every Friday at lunch in K2.
