The Granada Hills Charter (GHC) Parent Teacher and Student Association (PTSA) held its fifteenth annual Highlander Tea on February 24. There was a silent auction, a raffle, and a sneak peek of the upcoming drama production, “Shrek the Musical.”
The PTSA transformed Highlander Hall into a place of comfort and luxury as smooth jazz played in the background. Each table where guests sat was uniquely different from the next. For instance, one was decorated with chickens and the other with Barbies.
All of the event’s proceeds went to the campus K-9 program through Los Angeles Interquest Detection Canines, an organization that provides drug detection dog services to schools in the Los Angeles area. The organization gave attendees of the Highlander Tea a demonstration of the dogs’ work, highlighting their ability to detect vapes, cigarettes, and other contraband items.
Included in the silent auction were cookbooks, restaurant gift cards, and a three-night stay at a luxury hotel.
The Highlander Tea involved many different people in the GHC community including parents, teachers, students from both the high school and the TK-8 campus. There were also alumni present, including a 1963 graduate who is a retired aerospace engineer who still has regular virtual chats with his classmates. He came with his granddaughter to the Highlander Tea. Another noteworthy attendee was Los Angeles Councilman John Lee, who gave a speech about his election and most importantly, the beautiful community blooming in Granada Hills.
The Highlander Tea is just one example of the many ways our school is lucky to have such a robust and active PSTA organization.
