The boys’ varsity golf team has been a dominant force in the local sports scene this season, boasting an impressive record of 18-2 as of Tuesday, May 14. Led by the guidance of Coach Chris Ancheta, the team has showcased exceptional skills and determination on the golf course, consistently defeating their opponents in every match. They played in the City Finals on Wednesday, May 15, leading up to the SoCal Regionals on May 22.

One of the key factors contributing to the team’s success is their unwavering commitment to growth and improvement. The players’ dedication is evident in their rigorous practice schedule and approach to each match. These young athletes are constantly striving to better their game.

“At practice, I always try my best no matter what,” junior Robbie Coleman said. “But it’s not because of golf itself, though I do love it, it’s more importantly because I enjoy playing with my friends on the team.”

An element in the team’s achievements is their strong sense of integration. The players support and motivate each other, pushing themselves to new heights, which fosters a friendly, yet competitive environment. This strong bond between teammates has proven to play a significant role in their unbeaten streak, creating a team that operates as an unstoppable force.

“If I’m having a bad day, I’m feeling like I’m letting my team down, because I always try to shoot for the best,” junior and Team Captain Joseph Wong said. “Though I am Team Captain, and generally lead the way to victory, I would not be where I am today if my teammates hadn’t been around to support me, I’m glad they’re a part of my golf career.”

Furthermore, the team’s work ethic is second to none. Every member understands the importance of practice and perseverance, and they are willing to put in the extra effort to achieve their goals. This dedication has been exemplified by standout players, such as Wong, who delivers exceptional performances, leading the team to success with his impressive leadership skills.

“I’ve been golfing for three years and MVP for two years,” Wong said. “This is my first year being team captain, and it’s been an experience.”

As the season progresses, the Varsity Boys Golf Team shows no signs of slowing down. With their unbeaten record and unwavering determination, they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of high school golf. Their success serves as a testament to their talent, dedication, and hard work, and they are sure to leave a lasting impact on the sport for years to come.
