As the summer is quickly approaching, we are lucky to live in a place with many fun activities to keep us entertained during our months off. From strolls in the park to crafts in our own homes, the options are plentiful.

For those interested in arts and crafts, consider learning how to crochet, which will allow you to make stuffed animals for your friends and family. Alternatively, you could explore the world of do-it-yourself (DIY) projects, such as creating a personalized phone case or a unique planter.

You could venture out of your home and still be creative. For example, you could go to Majorwavez Lab in Los Angeles, where you can customize your brand-new shoes.

After you’ve solidified your talents in arts and crafts, summer is also a good time to start a small business. You could sell the amigurumi you’ve learned to make or venture out to sell customized cups or shirts. You could make money while letting your artistic side come out.

If arts and crafts are not your thing, but you still enjoy solitude, Los Angeles has many nearby beaches such as Malibu and Dockweiler which are popular with Granada Hills Charter students. At the beach, you could go for a walk, read a book, or even paint the beautiful scenery.

If you prefer the company of your friends, especially for seniors who are set on making memories before those friendships become long-distance, seek out adventure and check out the cost-effective options around our community.

Check out the botanical gardens such as Descanso Gardens to enjoy nature and take photos to capture those memories. Many museums here in LA are free of charge and only require you to make a reservation on the day you want to go. Consider heading to the Getty Villa or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) or head to The Broad and check out the Infinity Mirror Room.

After capturing all those memories and photos, you might be interested in a fun snack. Head to West Hollywood’s Carrera Cafe which lets you print your photos on your latte. There’s also a donut shop called “Donut Friend” that allows you to customize your donut with the fillings and topping you want.

If you have some money to spend after your entrepreneurial ventures, we are uniquely situated near many amusement parks including Magic Mountain, Disneyland, and Knott’s Berry Farm. Amusement parks don’t all have to be thrilling rides. You could take a drawing class at Disneyland or sample different jams at Knotts.

Overall, there are so many fun, artsy things to do in Los Angeles this summer. It just depends on who, what, and where you want to do things.
