The Accidental Music Club started its performance season with multiple high-energy showcases. On September 30, Accidental Music had its first performance on the quad for the “Party Like it’s 1999” pep rally during Spirit Week. Students listened as Accidental Music played famous 90’s songs like Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.”
“I played bass for three of the songs,” senior Yanah Montero said. “It was fun performing for the first time this year.”
Based on the reactions of the students in the audience, the Granada Hills Charter (GHC) student population was thrilled by the return of Accidental Music’s dynamic performances, which provided the perfect backdrop for classmates dressed in ’90s gear. The band’s brilliant synergy uplifted moods, thereby bringing a fantastic start to Spirit Week.
“It was so nice seeing how much fun they have on stage together, it made me want to join myself,” junior Simon Caber said.
Building on this momentum, the group hosted a booth at the 8th Grade Open House on October 19.
Accidental Music had a dynamic booth where visitors were able to play songs on guitar and receive prizes, ranging from keychains to phone charms.
The booth was a success, attracting interest from prospective students and intrigued parents.
Accidental Music aims to teach instruments to students of all skill levels. Each week, club members meet for an hour to practice and develop their skills, while preparing for upcoming performances.
Accidental Music fosters an environment of free expression, where members can develop friendships and hone their musical craft.
“Beyond learning to perform, Accidental Music has given me and my peers many opportunities to strengthen our passion for playing music and develop teamwork skills,” Montero said. “By giving us the environment to coordinate practices, agree on songs, and stay on time together; we learn about the necessity of teamwork and cooperation it takes to work together as musicians.”
Since its founding in 2022, Accidental Music has played at numerous pep rallies and club events. This attention has gained the club immense popularity and support from the GHC student body. Accidental Music is continuously developing its plans for the future.
“Last year was pretty stressful because we had a lot of time crunches,” senior and President Nathalia Jimenez said. “This year I want our club members to start early so we won’t have that stress”.
As Accidental Music continues to grow both in members and performances, the club remains focused on providing a supportive environment where students can refine their skills, perform together, and share their love of music with the GHC community. The club meets every Thursday after school.
