This year’s Link Crew hosted a Halloween Event meant to be an experience just for the freshman class with exciting features such as an inflatable horror maze, snow cones, and popcorn, all for free.

As freshmen entered the blacktop, they saw decorations left and right as well as a face painting table. The main centerpiece of the event was the inflatable maze that was designed by Link Crew and filled with jumpscare actors wearing spooky costumes and masks. The background music and sound effects made the maze an even more enjoyable experience. Link Crew leaders showcased their leadership and creativity during this event. Their goal was to make freshmen feel supported as they transition into high school.

This Halloween event builds on the strong bonds between freshmen and Link Crew Leaders formed during Summer Transition Academy (STA).

“This familiar presence will help them feel more comfortable and confident,” math teacher and Link Crew advisor Cassandra Gonzalez said. “With the direct invitation from their Link Leaders, we aim to foster a sense of belonging and connection among our freshmen students.”

Link Crew’s primary goal for this event is to foster a sense of community among the freshman students. They recognize the challenges of navigating a large campus, with its numerous clubs, extracurricular activities, and academic commitments.

Campus security aide Johnny Mojica was impressed by this year’s freshmen and their amazing behavior throughout the whole event.

“This is a good opportunity for them to get used to the school since they are just coming in from middle school and everything is so new to them,” Mojica said. “It’s definitely a big transition for them.”

Mojica appreciates the great effort Link Crew put into this Halloween event. He loves seeing the students interact with one another and get to know their new environment.

“All in all, I think it’s a great turnout and Granada really put a great effort into it. I appreciate how the staff came out and are welcoming them,” Mojica said. “I’m glad everyone’s enjoying themselves.”

Link Crew hopes to help freshmen build meaningful connections with peers by providing a fun and welcoming environment. Given the school’s diverse student population, this Halloween event is the perfect chance to celebrate and honor the Hispanic community’s cultural heritage by incorporating Dia de los Muertos.

“I feel that Granada is overall a great place compared to my middle school,” freshman Jayden Senata said. “I think their events are very well-planned and I’m glad I chose to come here.”
