Finding the help you need after school can be a challenge, but Granada Hill Charter (GHC) is making it easier than ever. The After School Mentor Program (AMP) offers a free and supportive environment for students seeking academic assistance, space to work, and even a way to clear detention hours.
Located in rooms J11 and J12, AMP is designed as a peer tutoring system. This isn’t your typical, stuffy tutoring session, however, but rather a place where students from all grade levels can get help from fellow classmates who excel in specific subjects.
The program is structured to ensure you’re always paired with someone who can help. Room J12 is designated for English, social studies, and languages, while J11 is the go-to spot for math and science. From a tough algebra problem to a challenging essay, this specialization means that you can quickly find the right person to help.
Beyond academic support, AMP is also a fantastic opportunity for peer collaboration and review. It offers a chance to get a fresh perspective on your work from someone who understands the GHC curriculum firsthand. AMP also offers free snacks to help students refuel while they work.
AMP is not limited to students seeking tutoring, however. The rooms also offer a quiet place to work, even if not engaging with the AMP mentors.
The program also gives tutors a chance to shine and help their peers. They get to share their knowledge and build leadership skills in a low-stress environment.
“AMP doesn’t just give students free help after school, but also creates a space where learning feels collaborative,” senior and AMP tutor Sofia Gaila said. “By tutoring others, I get to strengthen my own understanding of the subject while picking up new perspectives from the students I tutor.”
As an underrated, yet vital resource on campus, AMP is a community where students can support each other, succeed together, and peer review each other’s work through the lens of another student. So whether you need help with a complex equation or just a quiet place to study, consider stopping by rooms J11 or J12.
