Fog is slowly starting to roll over the Valley, leaves are changing to the more vibrant, and let’s be honest better, colors of orange and red. Something in the air is just, crisper. This can only mean one thing. It is time to start dressing the part.

The sweltering and uncomfortable heat of the San Fernando Valley will soon be a distant memory, leaving room for pumpkin spiced lattes, spooky movie marathons, and festive baking.

This glorious season will soon be seen on campus as well through fall fashion, the best fashion in my opinion. Although every season has its charm, fall fashion reigns supreme because it combines comfort and creativity in a way no other season can.

According to Vogue, “The fall fashion 2025 fashion trends were personality-driven, no matter what style camp you typically file yourself under…The clothes weren’t the only thing that was interesting this season, but how they were worn, too.”

True to that, fall fashion displays its uniqueness in how it is worn. Its differing textures and fabrics of knits and denim, wool and leather, create a greater sense of depth and individuality for those wearing. Unlike the lazy ease of summer’s shorts and t-shirts, fall fashion actually invites people to experiment and express themselves. Rightfully dethroning the basic shorts and t-shirt combo, fall fashion aims to not just exist, but to express.

With fall fashion comes a greater sense of practicality, as students no longer need to dress for extreme heat, nor extreme cold. More importantly, students no longer need to worry about their tank tops and shorts adhering to the school’s infamous dress code. For once, comfort and compliance can coexist, and that freedom gives students more room to focus on how they want to look, not what they’re allowed to wear.

Fall is the time for students to wholeheartedly express themselves without fear, and pack away their summer wardrobe. Whether it’s chic blazers atop a cozy sweatshirt, midi dresses with turtleneck sweaters on top, or trench coats and heeled boots, fall fashion befriends wardrobe diversity.

“I love fall fashion because I can layer a whole bunch of clothes on at the same time,” senior Joey Sarmiento said. “Fall clothes are so much easier to just throw on while still being so comfortable.”

With more power to experiment than other seasons, students can build more color and personality through multiple bundled layers. It’s a creative outlet that’s as personal as it is practical.

“This is not just true of this year, but every year I’ve seen a lot of cardigans come back in style, along with Uggs, sweatpants, and knits,” senior Gabrielle Teehankee said. “Fall layers make me feel like I can dress how I want without worrying about rules or dress codes.”

Fall fashion doesn’t just change wardrobes, it changes moods. It encourages individuality and confidence. Fall fashion brings a new beginning that matches the changing season itself. It is now time to say goodbye to summer fashion, and begin holding on to not only the best time of year, but the most wonderful time for fashion.

Summer fashion had its moment, but let’s be honest, it never stood a chance. Until next time in summer fashion! You won’t be missed.
