The Highlander football, cheer, band, and dance teams held their senior night on October 10. It was an evening filled with family and friends celebrating the hard work and dedication put in by our senior Highlanders.
To kick off the event, senior members of the band entered the field through the tunnel with their loved ones, decorated in sashes and posters to commemorate their growth. This trend continued for the football, cheer, and dance teams as they were embraced by their family members and showered with praise from fans in the stands.
Looking at the stands, you could see a mob of posters and flowers, all dedicated to the seniors who have contributed their time and effort into bettering the teams of Granada Hills Charter. Fans screamed their hearts out, showing off their pride and love for our senior Highlanders.
“It was a good feeling to have my mom, dad, and little sister on the field for the first time,” senior and varsity football player Joey Canto said. “It showed their support throughout all my four years. The senior night game was not just for me, but for my family too.”
Many of the celebrated seniors shared their appreciation for their sport and families, as they worked hard to give a stellar performance that the audience would never forget. Many of these sports have been a part of students’ lives for years and years, and they have dedicated a lot of time and effort into improving their craft.
“Football has become a big part of my life in general,” senior and varsity football player Justin Rico said. “It taught me a lot of resilience and how to overcome a lot of obstacles in life.”
Although the Highlander football team endured a 8-28 loss against El Camino Real High School, this year’s senior night was one for the books. We wish our seniors the best of luck in the remainder of their seasons, and hope they carry the life lessons they have learned into adulthood.
