KATSEYE debuted as a six-member group with winners from the Netflix show “The Debut: Dream Academy” in 2023. The six contestants selected for the group were Manon Bannerman, Sophia Laforteza, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae Jeung. However, when the group began its Wildworld Tour on September 1, only four members took the stage.
The group has faced a difficult year marked by two hiatuses, an injury, and a canceled festival performance. The repeated absences have left some fans concerned about the members’ well-being, and wondering what future holds for KATSEYE.
In February, HYBE x Geffen Records announced that Manon would take a temporary hiatus to focus on her health and well-being. At first, some fans criticized the other members for appearing hesitant to discuss Manon’s absence during livestreams and interviews. However, as time passed, the members began speaking more openly about their support for her.
“We continue supporting her and ensuring that she keeps taking care of her well-being, and we want the fans to know that Manon loves you all so much,” Sophia said during an interview on the “ALL THINGS CONSIDERED” podcast with the rest of the group.
While on hiatus, Manon has remained active on social media, sharing occasional updates with her followers. Her appearance at Coachella in April attracted particular attention.
KATSEYE performed at the festival on April 10 and 17 without Manon. During the second weekend, however, Manon appeared onstage with PinkPantheress and several other guests.
Manon was also absent from KATSEYE’s latest EP “WILD,” released August 14. She does not appear on its songs or in its choreography, making it the group’s first release recorded and promoted with only five members.
The group experienced another major change when Sophia announced on August 7 that she would also take a hiatus to focus on her mental health. With both Manon and Sophia absent, fans began questioning whether KATSEYE could continue performing successfully as a four-member group.
Another setback came shortly before the Wildworld Tour. Megan sprained her ankle during a tour rehearsal for Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Music Festival. With the injury and two members absent, the group ultimately decided to cancel their festival performance.
Although the remaining members have continued performing, the changes have been difficult for fans who see the group’s six-member chemistry as so important to its identity. Many hope that the group will be able to soon come together again.
KATSEYE’s future remains uncertain, but the member’s health must come before performances or tour dates. For many fans, the hope is not simply that the group will continue, it is that all six members eventually return safely and on their own terms.
