Sam Smith’s fame rises with tour

Pop singer, Sam Smith, launched his North American tour, “In the Lonely Hour,” titled after his album of the same name, because of his breakthrough year in 2014.

On January 29, 2015, I attended Smith’s U.S. tour concert at The Forum in Inglewood.The concert was amazing and his heartfelt appreciation for his fans came through in his performance. The atmosphere was lively and the crowd sang along to almost all of the songs.

His most popular song, “Stay With Me,” made the crowd go wild, and Smith stood on stage for a minute, taking in the atmosphere, appreciating every single second of the moment. His set list consisted of some of his popular songs, such as “Latch” and “Not the Only One,” but also some of his less popular songs, like “Lay Me Down” and “Make It to Me.”

Smith was originally very popular in England, winning many awards and having a number of songs to reach the top of the charts. Smith’s career grew as his music started to spread to the States.

Smith was born in 1992 in London, England. While he was growing up, he always had a passion for music as he took part in the school choir and studied singing and songwriting under professional jazz vocalist Joanna Eden.

Smith’s breakthrough debut came in the song “La La La” by Disclosure in October 2012. By May 2013, he earned his first number one single. After the release of his latest album, “In the Lonely Hour,” Smith’s popularity spread worldwide. This year, Smith was nominated for six Grammys and ended up winning four of them.

In June 2014 in an issue of The FADER, Smith came out to the public about being gay.  When speaking to about the purpose behind his album, Smith said, “When I wrote the record I was just really heartbroken. All I wanted to do was go to the studio and write about this guy who I fell in love with.”

Smith’s latest album is all about love, and it is obvious when you give it a listen. At the concert, Smith reiterated to his fans, “I know I may seem like I am sad all the time, but I am actually not. I am a happy person who loves sad music.”

During the concert, Smith would take breaks in between his songs and take time to thank all of his fans and let them know how much they mean to him and his success.

Sam Smith’s personal life and talent has lead to his fame across the world.

Smith won “Favorite Male Artist Pop/Rock” at the American Music Awards and “Breakout Music Artist” at the Young Hollywood Awards. Smith continues to try his hardest to create music that fans across the world can enjoy.
