As we look forward to a new year, we can also look forward to a few trendy apps. These mobile apps range from learning different languages to navigating your way through the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. You will find yourself in love with what these apps can offer you.

Don’t want to be stuck in traffic for hours? No problem! Waze is a futuristic, free GPS app that helps you avoid all of the unnecessary mishaps you don’t want to run into, including accidents, police sightings, and traffic. Waze also provides turn-by-turn assistance, estimated travel times to your specific destinations, and preferred travel times of how to get there.

The difference between Waze and other navigation apps is that Waze is a community-driven app, meaning that all of the collisions, traffic informations, and police occurrences you see on Waze are brought to you by other Wazers. The Wazers are individuals within the area who experience the bumper to bumper traffic or see police and post the occurrences on Waze for other people to see and avoid. This way, users have the opportunity to minimize commute time because individuals caution others to avoid specific routes. Not only is Waze helpful in driving and avoiding major halts, but it also identifies the cheapest gas stations near or along the route you are taking.

This was something I had to see to believe. Duolingo is a free app in which you learn how to speak a different language for free. Not only do you have the ability to learn a language in the simplest form in your hands, but you also have the chance to choose among 11 different languages, varying from Italian to Dutch.

Duolingo also offers the opportunity to brush up on the languages you once learned and loved to communicate in, but, unfortunately, had to put down at one point. This accessible app helps you learn the languages you always dreamed of speaking in an easy way. Teaching styles vary from visual images to oral communication, and are designed to have a personal setting.

You’ve heard of Etsy, you’ve heard of Pinterest; but have you heard of Wanelo? Wanelo is a free app that specializes in promoting different products that are sold on the Internet. Wanelo is derived from the three words, Want, Need, and Love. It serves as a digital mall for individuals.

The app has over 12 million users from over 300,000 stores, including larger store brands or even small boutiques. The founder of Wanelo, Deena Varshavskaya, started the company after realizing people needed a more personalized way of shopping online. After not being able to find a particular item at a store, she founded Wanelo in order for each individual to have their own, personal platform that channels their personal style and taste.

This app is an absolute lifesaver! CamScanner is an app that takes and crops photos for you. It makes the content of the picture clearer and easier to see. Besides being able to edit and manage the photos at any time, you can also manage your photos by adding notes or inviting others to view your documents.
