Unable to inspire athletes on the field due to the pandemic, Granada Hills Charter has released a series on YouTube called “Unbreakable Unstoppable,” to help motivate students while we are on distance learning. The series features different coaches, major athletes and more talking about subjects such as perseverance and passion.
Kicking off the series, football coach and former NFL player Bucky Brooks spoke with Executive Director Brian Bauer about how students can become great leaders and accomplish their goals through servant leadership.
“Details are really important and when we pay attention to that, I think, we are able to see the big picture. We can get so focused on the achievement of the goal as opposed to, again, with details, really focusing on the actions. Leaving the results to speak for themselves,” Bauer said in episode one of the series.
Brooks and Bauer’s discussion led into the reasons the school has been successful both academically and athletically. They both stressed the strong belief of servant leadership, helping others succeed before focusing on yourself.
“In order to be a great leader you must serve, you must be humble enough to listen and improvise, feedback, offers and support,” Brooks said in the episode.
After beginning the series discussing the importance of leadership, the following episodes include topics such as building confidence, the lasting power of coaches’ words and the importance of perseverance.
Even USA National Olympic softball player and GHC alum Irene Rivera joined the most recent episode, discussing the significance of passion and perseverance.
Rivera offered advice such as “to control your controllables” and “if you put your heart into it, you’ll always get what you want at the end of the day.”
GHC’s “Unbreakable Unstoppable” web series is one of the many ways the school continues to uphold its vision for its students as seen in its mission statement: “Enable them to be successful lifelong learners and productive, responsible citizens in a diverse society.”
By re-telling their own experiences and giving advice on how to adapt to present and future challenges, the coaches have not stopped motivating their students to be their most successful selves.
